December 7

Hey family,

So to answer some questions, I tried a lot of food. I still won't try stuffing though. Haha I don't think that's something that I'll like. But I loved hearing dads story about his thanksgiving on a mission. I thought that was really Funny! I ate a lot of food at this families reunion and we played tons of games. Then we went to another families house to try some food and I was so full... The following Saturday was elder fadely's birthday. We went back over to the 2nd families house and they made us shepherds pie. I decided I don't like shepherds pie. That's something I can't do yet.

The weather is up and down here. It is in the 40's one day and then it's back up to 70 the next. I've learned to bring a jacket wherever I go. We met an awesome family this week that is super excited to learn more. When we taught them from the bible and the Book of Mormon, one thing he told us was that, he knows that we don't have our own bible like everyone says. We just have additional scripture. He's excited to learn more and we made another appointment with him. Then we sat down later that same week with him and his wife and we taught them a lot about the plan of salvation and we are going to go over the restoration next time we meet them.

I was thinking about going caroling this winter as well! It doesn't seem like Christmas a lot of days. Because of the temperature fluctuations. But I love seein everyone's decorations. One thing I hate about this area is that I can't say something anymore! It always comes out as either sumpthin or sumpin I feel so much like a hic! It's ridiculous. I met a ton of awesome members this week! I met a family that next week invited us over for pday to play pool with them and talk. They are so much fun to talk to! I also met brother grant a while ago. But he is the funniest man I know! He kind of reminds me of grandpa wells a little bit, but he is more of a teenager in a 60 year old body it is super funny! I also got to talk with the O'Bara's which is one of my favorite families as well. They are super awesome and funny. They're really nice and understanding if we are having a really bad day. Some of those tough days it's nice to go see members and they are a family that help relieve stress. I love the Christmas card and I hope others appreciate it as well!

We haven't had our Christmas party yet. It is this week on Thursday. I can't wait for it! It's going to be so awesome! It supposedly lasts all day and we can challenge president Craig to anything like an arm wrestle or handstand push-ups or push-ups or whatever (he owns four gyms so...) but I'm going to be the first elder to beat him in something! No other elder has beat him yet.

Also as far as helping out families and stuff, it is in the white handbook to not ask your parents to sponsor anyone or anything in my area. I'm not sure about Christmas. I'll ask my mission president and get back to you as best as I can. For Christmas I'm not really sure what I want. I'll have to think about that more as well.

I love you all so much. I'm doing all I can to be right with God and "stand blameless before God at the last day." Stay safe and keep me updated. I love you all so much! Merry Christmas

Thanksgiving in Waycross

Hey mom, dad!
So thanks giving was awesome! Turkey is okay, ham is okay, I like pork better, I think. When I see meat right now i just think it's meat. I don't think, oh that's chicken, or that's something else. It's just I think it's meat. And I ate potatoes yes, they're pretty good. One thing I don't like is shepherds pie. That made me almost throw up though. We also played a game called kuub or Viking chess. It's super fun. Best way to describe it is like wooden horseshoes but mixed with Corn hole. It is a lot of fun though! There was so much dessert. Holy cow. I feel so huge... After lunch and dinner I had such a tough time trying to stay awake...
We got a referral from someone who's grandson said they wanted to be baptized. So after elder fadely and I ran around screaming and jumping around he told me, "there's always a catch, it's never this easy." So we left to go teach this kid who is about 10.
So we are teaching this kid who wants to get baptized, he has a 20 year old sister and we are teaching them both. In the middle of he lesson his girl gets up and moves over to a bed that is next to the couch that I'm sitting on and she starts typing things into her phone. So I look at her and she shows me her phone, I think it's like a joke or something. I look at what it is and it's a message that reads, "ur cute." Now I'm like, oh crap what do I say? I didn't think this was possible on a mission.... I'm a missionary and I'm not gonna provoke more of this conduct. I am a man of God, a representative of Jesus Christ. So I end up just saying, "thank you." ... She goes and sits back over next to her brother and holds her hand up to her ear and makes the phone sign and asks, "can I get your number?" My companions face just turned soooooo freaking red. And I don't know what to say. I don't want to say yes, because I don't have a phone and I'm a missionary and I'm not supposed to date or anything on a mission. Like making the wrong choices could get me excommunicated! :o but at the same time I can't just shoot her down, because if I do that then she won't want to talk anymore. And she is a less active member of the church and so I have to visit her more. So I just say, "we will talk about it later."
So we get through the lesson and while we are leaving she hands me a note with her name, Number, and a message. The message read, "we can be friends first and see what happens." I was so dumbfounded... I didn't know what to do! You'd be surprised with how much this happens. I think something happens when you're a missionary. These other girls like the first week were trying to set me up with their friend who is serving in Las Vegas and tried to give me her email, but every hint went right over my head. I'm gonna be so out of the game when I get home...
After we left my companion said, "there's the catch." The problem is, I can't just flat out reject her because she is a less active and I have to still go and teach her. So it's frustrating! But I don't want to lead her on either. I think I'm just going to say for these two years I'm a missionary and it's against the rules.
I loved the music haha! Thanks so much I was actually singing Billy gilman like two weeks ago. You should send me pictures of the sheet music I had in the music folder of the songs by him! That would be awesome, if you can't find it that's okay. I'll keep you updated with everything and I'll try to take more pictures of my area this week to send them to you next pday. I might try to send home a few gifts for some people. There gonna be small but just some fun stuff hopefully you all will like.
I hope you all have an awesome week and I can't wait for Christmas! I am definitely going to miss you all but I've heard all the elders love the Christmas parties! They are supposed to be super fun! I'll try to find some fun little gifts to give to y'all!
I'll keep you updated with everything here like you've done there! This week was pretty slow but next week should be a lot more jam packed hopefully. Have an awesome week I love you all so much!

Waycross Georgia Way Cool!

Hey family!

So Monday and Tuesday last week, I was pretty stressed out because we were leaving so many of our investigators that I had come to know and love.

This week was really different being in Waycross Georgia. The people here are extremely friendly  and a lot of fun to be around! I love the ward and a lot of the missionaries that are here. In my area I'm serving near one missionary that came out at he same time I did and I got to know him a little bit in the mtc but not enough!

The elders here are super funny though it's hilarious! Our apartment in Jax was super small but now it's really big. We have an upstairs and basically have a mini version of a 2 story house at home! It's super awesome.

So first impressions were that it was really really hard to leave the people I've grown to love. I don't know if it was quite so hard to leave it was just super hard to leave not knowing if I'd ever see them again! But I was kind of nervous to come to waycross Georgia since the food gets more and more southern. So there is really just two families where I can't eat their food but other than that I realized that I can eat meats and stuff (just not like hamburger or beef because it smells and tastes gross and hot dogs) but I just prefer grains instead of meats and stuff. But every meal I've had I've eaten something new so I've really branched out. I don't like ground beef either, like in tacos. I'm still not good with Mexican food, and I don't know about oriental food yet. But to give you an idea of what I'm eating now I took a picture of our last meal at B dubs:image1.JPG

It was super good. I love the people here because even if they're not interested they are still super nice and will talk to you. I love my new companion, his name is elder fadely. On the conference call while elder Romero and Ivory and I were listening we heard my companion and elder Romero (my trainer) thought it said fadeweed. And elder Ivory instantly responded saying, "THAT IS NOT A NAME! CALL SOMEONE AND FIND OUT WHAT IT REALLY IS" it was super funny. The work is kind of slow just because elder fadely has only been out 6 months and this is is first time taking over an area and because all of our investigators dropped us. So we are doing a lot of finding. But the work is super fun and elder fadely and I are getting a long great! He is a lot of fun to be with and is a great worker!

Our district is really awesome but we only have one set of sisters with us which I thought was interesting :P just because before we had 3 sets of sister missionaries!

It was crazy! The past 3 days have been like 45 degrees which has felt so flipping cold because until then the weather has been a constant 80-85 degrees. So it got super cold out of no where! But the area just reminds me of a game I used to play with Conner Vince and Joo-an. It was super funny! It's super weird but I like it haha! It's really funny to see everyone out here, even the kids in high school all are dressed up in camo clothes and they all seem like motorcycle racers or hunters. It's like a redneck town haha! :D

It is a bit more hilly than Florida which I like even though I'm biking half of the time. Our area is huge but we are in a car share it's ridiculous! I'll send some more pictures of a bunch of our companionships that I said goodbye to since sometimes the mail doesn't go through for some reason if there are a bunch of pictures. And my address is, 823 Saint Mary's drive waycross Georgia 31501. If there is any way you could send some more music like Christmas songs or something, even Motab that is Christmas music or other fun songs that would be awesome too! For example like the song from oh brother where art thou, the oh sinners lets go down, song would be awesome! We listened to that a bit with some other elders that had it and it was awesome!

You should definitely look up a talk called, "conversion of a Catholic" it is such an awesome talk that talks about a Catholic boy and his conversion story to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. When we got to our home in Georgia we listened to a witchcraft talk which was kind of freaky but extremely interesting and talks about what witchcraft really is and how it could be used. It's kind of crazy! But really intriguing. Also if you could send me a beanie that would be awesome too, we are allowed to wear them in the winter when it gets cold as a part of our dress apparel.

I'll send you a bunch of pictures in a minute, I'm just sending them in a different email.

My days have been a lot longer as of moving to Georgia just because I'm not used to the area and I don't know how to fill my time and it's hard. As soon as I got into a routine in Jacksonville the lord called me to another place in the mission and I now have work to do here. It's hard but I know there is someone that I need to reach and I need to do all I can to finish my work here for the lord. I feel like I already told you this, but my ponderize scripture is alma 60: 7-8 and it is when Moroni chews out pahoran for not helping out his brethren. But the message is that we need to not be idle in what we do. The adversary is at constant work and won't let down if he becomes fatigued and so we need to continuously stay busy and do what we can to further better ourselves. I'm not saying that we should never relax, but we just need to not become lackadaisical. I love you all and hope you all have an awesome week!

Ali you look awesome with your braces off! You must feel great! Go show off your smile to everyone you can! Even a smile to someone in the hallway can make someone's day!

Sam I'm so proud that you were able to just hop up to the announcements and get that to the school! You're so awesome! Keep up the hard work and you'll be super happy! And make as many friends as you can and have tons of fun!

Transfers are Hard

Hey!

The lady was the same one who I ate with the first time I was here. She is really nice! Sorry for not getting you a good letter last week we have been really busy! I'll be sure to send some pictures. That's so awesome that Ali is being recognized for everything she's working for! I've been showing everyone all of her drawings! They love them so much!

So this week is frustrating because we had so much going on and we are doing so well with all of our investigators and I really have been getting to know and love his area and all of the people in it, and I'm being transferred to waycross, Georgia.

My trainer (elder romero) is being transferred also! And it's super ridiculous... Because the new elders are white washing our area and it's so dumb! Agh I just wish I had one more transfer to say goodbye to people and help them with their conversion. I'm positive that this area could have  5 baptisms this transfer! It frustrates me so much! I've found so many ponderize scriptures it's nuts!

I'm glad that you all are doing so well! I hope everything is going well with schooling and all other activities! Please pray for me to enjoy this area haha! I've heard awesome things about Georgia but I'm still super nervous. Thanks Sam for helping me like eggs! I'm having trouble finding ways to like them. At dinner I've been eating a lot more. Just the other night we went to a bbq place and I ate a pulled chicken sandwich. And I decided I don't like hamburgers. Beef is just gross. Unless it's like a roast or something. I'm still getting used to flavors of meat and it's super odd.

I learned an awesome lesson about the plan of salvation and really everything we have is to give us joy. Our message to people should always help them increase their joy. Remember the Book of Mormon is there to help us on our path to find joy. Every time we share something we know that will help someone, it should be to increase their joy. I love you all so much and I'll try to get those letters and packages mailed to you all soon. I love those boots and Ali you look so good! That's awesome! I can't believe that you're done with braces! I can't believe that you're already looking so different!

Tell nick I said hi, I'm trying to write him but there are so many things going on! I still can't believe he is home! That's so awesome! I love you all and I'll get my new address to you next Monday! Love you all!

I Love Texts Like This!!

Had the pleasure of feeding your missionaries this evening. They were on splits which is why they are with a different companion. Had a great lesson and really enjoyed the spirit they brought into our home. Thank you for sharing them with Jacksonville!

What's Going on in the Florida Jacksonville Mission

http://floridajacksonvillemissionnews.blogspot.com/
This week was pretty good it's hard to recollect everything that has gone on though. My new companion is Elder Ivory. I still have elder Romero as my trainer, Elder Warren went home due to back issues but he will be back in about 2 months.
Kaisen's family is doing great! We haven't seen them recently but they are really excited to keep reading the Book of Mormon and test it out to feel the peace. They want to know our first names so I told them that each visit that we make they can have a few guesses and if they don't get it right by the fourth lesson then I'll just tell them. By that time we should be onto the commandments and they'll be used to calling me Elder Salter anyway haha!
The mom wants to be baptized and have her son baptized too so she's super open to learning more and so we are super excited to teach her how she can know what we teach is true. I am excited to get to know them more and really work with them to help them make the right choices.
As far as self reliance goes, it is extremely important. A big thing that I've learned is that self reliance keeps you safe. We have been teaching a lot about the law of chastity for role plays because we never really teach it to people. The biggest thing I've learned from that is that a huge blessing is self mastery. In that you can have such self control to control desires of your body and in essence control any thoughts that you feel are weighing you down. That is really what the word of wisdom and the law of chastity are there for. It may always be a challenge  for people but that is how we grow. Gaining self control requires self reliance. I'll try to think of more but I know that it is so important to be self reliant because otherwise you're always dependent on others. Self reliance will help you're family in success I see so much, families that can't support each other because everyone else is used to being able to have a "fall back" It is extremely important to be able to support yourself before you support others. That may not make a lot of sense but I have been sporting it up for the past 4 hours...
My ponderize scripture for this week is alma 60: 7-8 I can't remember it but it talks about being dependable rather than dependent.
I love you all and I hope you are all being blessed for my service and I love you so much.
Also! One more thing with self reliance. The greatest thing is to always trust in the Lord and know that you're not alone. The Lord will provide as long as you are trying to be obedient and worthy. His Holy Spirit will guide you in all you do. I know this to be true and I had an experience last pday, I thought I was going to waste time by biking for 30 minutes to someone who wouldn't be home... Then they weren't home... I was super mad and thought it was myself. It was 8:15 and would've taken 30 minutes to bike home. On the way home, I had an impression to visit a lady that had been really flaky all other times. We decided to see her and we learned that she had been reading! She was super excited to learn more about resurrection and we were able to clear up a hole bunch with her. I know that the Lord will always help us to be self reliant.
I love you all and I love hearing from you. Ali! I'm sorry I'll try to get some mail mailed with a letter for you and the family this week or the next I didn't have enough time to email everyone but I love you and you're the best sister I could ask for!

Hey Sam

Hey Sam! Way to go. I have not tried that yet, crocodile, but I have tried a bunch
of new foods. I don't know if I like eggs or not. I hate them
scrambled, but I'm not sure if I like them sunny side up or over easy.
They taste strange and I don't know how to make them taste better. My
mission is going pretty well! I met some awesome people. One person is
named Daquan.  He is awesome and wants to be baptized now! We also met
some awesome people named Evan and Victoria. We are really good
friends and they want to learn more about what we believe. I just
watched the primary program twice in two wards. I was thinking of you
and how awesome it would be to talk to you and see you in the program.
What's your favorite song you're singing? My favorite song you might
sing is "we'll bring the world his truth" or "we are as the army of
helaman" they're the same songs but they are named differently I
think. I love the brain teaser dude! Hopefully you're holding up okay
and if you ever need help or advice from me just send me an email! I
love you so much Sam! I'm reading about the stripling warriors right
now in alma chapter 53 and onward and it's one of my favorite Book of
Mormon stories. Love elder salter

New Buddies Oct 19

Hey,
I got another companion and he is Elder Ivory. He is super awesome! It has been loads of fun with him around but at first he was not excited to be in a trio and he was stuck in the back of the car for so long and he just started going crazy! He was joking around and it was super funny. It was 8 o clock and elder ivory looks to me and just says, "let's go bowling and call the young women in your ward! Oh wait we can't our district leader is here..." And we had a good laugh but he mainly does stuff like that to try to get my trainer to laugh or just get super uncomfortable because he always tries to hold in a smile. He tries to be super mature to the point where smiling isn't allowed... It's nuts! But I still love elder Romero regardless if he decides to smile or not haha! We are also all in the same apartment.

So this week we got to know this awesome couple named Evan and Victoria. They have a son named Kaisen who is normally shy around guys but he just opened up to me and we're best buddies now! So Evan and Victoria are thinking we are celestial beings or something haha! I really am excited to teach them more and we think they could be ready for baptism.

I hope that Sam is doing well now that you're back! Sorry it took so long to email we were playing ultimate frisbee and tennis and ping pong!

I love you all and I hope you have a great day!

Bible Week Oct 12

Hey!

This week was pretty interesting. One thing that has been frustrating
is that we don't have a lot of solid investigators. We are working on
finding people but it is pretty hard to find people that just want to
talk. We found one family that is pretty young. Their names are Evan
and Victoria. They have a son named Kaisen. They are super nice and
fun to talk to. They are extremely open to hearing about what we
believe and learning more. It's really funny because they asked us
what our first names were and so I am having them guess for the next
few visits. The husband and wife both thought my name was Derrick
haha! But they're excited to meet with us next Sunday and so are we!

We also had the chance of meeting a man named Brandon. He is a super
nice guy but he likes to tell us every sin that he has done, which is
kind of frustrating. But he saw us riding our bikes and he called us
over and told my companion and I that we need to come over and teach
him so that he can have that faith aspect in his life. So we are
having a very interesting dinner combo on Friday that consists of
pizza and French toast. He is really excited to learn, we just need to
have him stop confessing everything to us.

Another amazing experience that I had was, a family we met only wanted
to learn out of the bible until they need the Book of Mormon. So our
next lesson with them we are going to focus on the use of the Book of
Mormon and why we need to teach through it. However, we taught the
restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ through the bible and
scriptures that I found and matched up to our lesson in the bible. It
was so amazing! Even though the bible is good and has a lot of truth,
it is missing the mark insanely without he Book of Mormon. Even so,
after I had taught the restoration with the bible, I was so confused
to how many people, who are scholars in the bible, skip over so many
of these key points. Even with the plan of salvation. In Corinthians
12 it talks about the kingdoms of glory. What we teach is directly out
of the bible and people still miss all of this information. One thing
that would really help is a scripture, not only in the Book of Mormon,
that talks about God having a body of flesh and bone. That is one
thing that is a bit harder to teach when I can only find scriptures
that says they're separate.

Something that has been awesome has been that since I learned to teach
the restoration through the bible, my companion and I have gotten
loads of dinner appointments because others want to learn the
restoration through the bible as well! It really builds my testimony
of everything that I believe.

I have never really understood the bible completely and it was really
hard so I had really just focused more on the Book of Mormon. When I
was teaching the restoration through the bible it really solidified my
testimony in the Book of Mormon and that the church of Jesus Christ
really is the lords kingdom on earth!

A verse that I have been ponderizing has been alma 38:5 it reads, "and
now my son, shiblon, I would that he should remember, that as much as
ye shall put your trust in God, ye shall be delivered out of your
trials, and your troubles, and your afflictions, and he shall be
lifted up at the last day." I like to modify it and reread it as, "and
now my son, Elder Salter, I would that he should remember, that as
much as ye shall put your trust in me [God], ye shall be delivered out
of your trials, and your troubles, and your afflictions, and he shall
be lifted up at the last day." This verse gives me such great comfort
because if we trust in our father in heaven he will not let us fall.
If we follow Jesus Christ's example, then we show we trust our father,
and we will be delivered out of any hardship we endure. I love those
scriptures because it means that I can promise so much more blessings
for those who are investigating the church. That is really my favorite
scripture that I have read this past week. I can't wait to learn even
more though with the bible and with the Book of Mormon and how they
really are intertwined just as all of the apostles tell us and that we
tell others. I can build my testimony on those teachings and really
share them with others. I'll send a few pictures of some scriptures
that prove that the LDS church is the lords kingdom established on the
earth.

What were your favorite conference talks? I had a couple. I liked
Devin G Durrant and his talk on ponderizing. I also loved David A
Bednar's talk on obedience and forgiveness. And last but definitely
not least, I loved Larry R Lawrence's talk about "what is keeping me
from progressing?" These talks really stood out to me! What did you
think of conference?

I love the Book of Mormon and how much we are able to learn from it. I
also really have grown to love the bible and its teachings. I was
discussing the bible with some of my new friends in the ward and
recent converts and reactivated members and we talked a lot about how
the teachings of the bible are nearly exactly the same as the bible. I
know that the teachings are true and every lesson my testimony is
strengthened especially when others try to teach us their
interpretation of the gospel. I can never feel the spirit when they
are "teaching" us like I can when I bear my testimony. It really
solidifies my testimony of my beliefs. Also I'm going to be sending a
tithing slip and money to pay tithing since I found more money on a
card then I had thought I made.

I love you all so much and I can't wait to hear your stories of the
week! If you haven't yet you should look up these scriptures that I'm
going to send you all in this picture! It's amazing to see the points
of the true church from the bible! It really is amazing to include the
bible in teachings of the Book of Mormon because you see everything
really just lines up perfectly and it is so amazing! I love you all
and encourage you to read the scriptures in the following picture!

Tuesday, October 6, 2015

It was About Thursday and I was getting kind of discouraged and I wanted to be a little bit lazy. I'll admit it. I was just homesick and I just wanted a day to relax... That same morning, our zone leaders called us and gave us some scriptures which were ether 12:6, 12 and it reads, "6 And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith... 12 For if there be no faith among the children of men God can do no miracle among them; wherefore, he showed not himself until after their faith." And then he left us the scripture alma 48:17 which reads, "17 Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men." I love this scripture and I immediately wrote it down in my journal! Above the heading I wrote, "what am I doing today to be a modern day captain Moroni?" After hearing my zone leaders testimony on the trials of faith and about how we can gain greater faith and a greater testimony I was so excited to go and do work!

This general conference was amazing! The talks were spectacular! They hit hard on 2 main points. Keep the sabbath day holy, and families. A huge thing that some elders and I discussed was that they are no longer saying, "don't do this, don't do that" they're now saying, follow the spirit. One of my favorite talks was by Larry R. Lawrence and his talk was on following the spirit. There was a spiritual exercise that he had everyone commit to doing on their own. When we pray, we need to ask, "what is keeping me from progressing?" The spirit gives customized answers and is direct with us. Another talk was on ponderizing this is 80% pondering and 20% memorizing. How it works is we get a scripture and we put it on our phone or fridge or anywhere for a week. During that week we ponder and try to memorize that scripture. We can learn so much more and how to live our lives by this simple thing. It is truly amazing how during this time where the world is being thrown into chaos and becomes more and more liberal and accepting of incorrect beliefs, the church is getting rid of those gray areas and they are focusing on following the spirit. I  loved general conference and it seemed like it went by so quickly! My trainer kept falling asleep and so some other elders kept messing with him! It was pretty funny!

I probably had the most interesting experience teaching this week. We were going to teach a family from Zimbabwe about the restoration. After we got done teaching we invited them to read the Book of Mormon. They told us that they didn't fully understand the bible and after some compromising we are getting them to read 3rd nephi 11 and we will discuss how it relates to Jesus's earthly ministry in Mathew, mark, Luke, and John. But they want us to teach more from the bible right now so I am going to be learning a lot more from the bible. Once I can find some scriptures to point them to the Book of Mormon, in the bible, then they'll read the Book of Mormon. They're an amazing family though!

I found another really funny video spoof some elders in my mission made about the online training! I'll send that when I am done emailing. I hope everyone is having such an amazing time in Hawaii! I can't believe that you're finally there! That sounds like so much fun!

I love you all and I'll try to email more next week it's so hard because we didn't have much time this week with no car and we had to carpool and people wanted to go home early... It's been a great week though and I miss you all and love you all so much!

Happy Birthday Elder Salter

I can't believe that nick is home! That is so crazy!
I appreciate letting me know about his talk! Send me his email, or
have him email me so I can send him some emails as well and talk to
him about his service in the mission!
Thanks of the shoes! Sorry for opening it early, we were playing a lot of sports
today and I need them haha! I love them too thanks so much! I got the
cinnamon rolls! They're delicious, I gave some to the APs and to my
companion! They said that they are super delicious! And
also I haven't opened anything else, just the shoes and cinnamon
rolls.
This week still has gone by so
fast! But we have done service like 4 of the 7 days of the week! It
has gone so fast. All I can really remember is that service which was
super fun! And we had a trade off so it was me and elder warren, with
another elder from our district. We made a video of us singing a song
that was awesome and we then made a video that night! I'll send it to
you when I get the chance!
Something that was amazing this week was that we were tracting in
elder warrens area and we weren't getting anywhere. We were about to
give up when we found a group off drinking beer and smoking out
front and we almost didn't approach them but we decided to try them
and leave. We ended up talking to an awesome guy named Dalton. He
basically asked us when we could come back for another visit! He is so
ready for baptism. He just has a few complications and so we probably
won't see him be baptized...
This week has gone by so fast and it's so hard to remember everything
that's going on! And sorry I have pday today and my emails didn't send
on time so that's why haha! I loved hearing about dads experience
biking! That was awesome! I met a brother who is brother Christopher,
he loves biking and I was talking to him yesterday about how he loves
climbing as well.
Love at first sight!
Gotcha forever!!!

Always ready to go
Happy!!
I can get it!

Blur

Oh man, this week went by so fast! I feel like there is not enough time in the day! Although the days are long but the weeks are short! It's ridiculous!

This week it's hard to remember everything that has happened because it's been such a blur. We have so much going on and we had to cover a few areas. But we had 3 commitments to baptism in October. We're going to try to get four baptisms in October! It's super exciting.

One of the most frustrating things on a mission is sometimes you don't know when you have the spirit because you're accustomed to it, but as soon as you make a tiny error or something as simple as a rude judgement, you can feel the spirit withdrawing from you. You are able to notice so much more when it is gone from you then when you have it.

The spirit truly guides us. However when we pray, we ask for the gift of discernment almost daily, and so with that gift, God sometimes takes a step back and he will allow us to make the decision for ourselves because he trusts our judgement. Elder Romero and I were debating weather to go help someone move or to continue tracting and so we prayed about it and didn't get an answer but we didn't have any thoughts come to mind of who we should see so we went to do service with a message prepared. We ended up getting to the new families house that was just moving in and they had just started unpacking with the AP's so we got there just in time to help out and it only took us about 30 minutes to get everything unpacked and situated In the new apartment. They thanked us thoroughly and we were able to have some delicious pizza with the Hardy family and brother hardy's sister. They thanked us so much and said that they really needed the help. Elder Romero didn't want to do the service at first because he wanted to do tracting or something but I told him we would share a message with them for like 10 minutes if they were done. They were far from done and really in need of our help. It was a little testimony of having the gift of discernment.

The week has been such a blur, it went by so fast. Earlier that same morning though we did about 4 hours of service and got to go to a sea food place, when we had finished and I tried a new type of sandwich but I had to take a few things off haha. We had a wonderful time doing service and we had such a fantastic experience meeting people. But this week really feels like all I can remember is last pday, weekly planning, service, and this pday. Everything else is just gone. I'm sorry but I don't have any more real interesting stories :P.

So this pday, we went over to a members house with the sister missionaries and the AP's and ysa elders and we had lunch then went to go play laser tag and mini golf! It was super fun but the sisters are super good at laser tag! They always somehow beat us by about 1000 points... Hut we all kept getting super competitive and had such a great time haha. Then we played mini golf and I won :P it was pretty fun but super easy. Then we went back to laser tag and played a mode called vampire where it lasts for 7 minutes and one player starts as a vampire. When you shoot him he is only disabled for 5 seconds. Humans have 3 lives and when they die, they turn into vampires and try to infect the other humans. Other people still alive basically have to not die for 7 minutes. I lived both times we played it because I found an awesome spot that no one knew where I was and it was super awesome! Elder warren and I were they only 2 people that never got out, it was super fun!

Unfortunately we came out of the place and someone had hit the AP's car and we had to grab the manager to get the cameras and an officer to get a police report about it. We had got that done and we had some awesome pizza called Als pizza, it was super delicious but it was pretty expensive.

I can't believe how fast this time is going by. I feel like I've been out maybe 2 weeks, maybe :P

I love you all and I'll try to give y'all more information next pday it's so extremely hard to remember everything because the weeks are such a blur... Anyway, I love you all so much!

There are some shoes called addidas 0's and size 10 should be good I believe. That would be super awesome if I could get those, I asked elder warren since he is a track athlete but those would be awesome. I hope that everything is going well and everyone is safe! Send me more pictures if possible, I'd really appreciate seeing what's going on in all of your lives! I can't wait to tell you more about what we do, this week was kind of hard because all I can really remember other than pdays is just service. We've done so much service this past week...

I love y'all and I'm actually writing a sister from the MTC right now :P her name is sister Conrad and she's the sister that I gave the blessing to if you remember that. I hope that you all are safe and that y'all are being blessed for my service! Haha, I miss you all so much and I'll send y'all some pictures of my best friend since the MTC. He has been such an amazing influence on me in my mission and I've grown to love him so much, it's elder smith xD.

The elder in the background is elder Vance, he is super nice and is extremely funny. We're going to go play soccer with them and another elder I really got to know well, his name is elder britch. I think is what it's called. I'll have to look at his name tag again. But he is super nice and we played soccer with each other. He is a Spanish elder. I'll let y'all know a lot more next week.

I love you all so much and dad yes I did get the package from brother spindle tell him I said thank you. And sorry I can't message you now I don't have enough time today was super busy but I'll write emails thru out the week to send to you I love you all and all of your emails.

Have a super week and be safe! Love y'all!

Hi Mom! So this week has been pretty intense...

So first off, Monday we just played kickball, volleyball, and ping pong all day. Them the next day me and elder warren went with our zone leader for a trade off. We ended up needing to give an 8 month old baby a blessing that stopped breathing on Monday. It was so hard to go into that hospital room and look at this little baby with his eyes wide open gasping for air... It's something when someone is hooked up in the hospital but when it's a baby that is hooked up to a respirator a long with a hundred other cords, it's really hard to see. The three of us elders were praying so hard and we cried so much in that room. I don't know if I've prayed harder in my life. I wanted so badly for this little baby to be healed. Unfortunately after we gave the blessing, I just learned this morning that Jesse Adam Murry jr passed away a few days ago. That was the baby's name. But instead of being angry or upset, I felt comforted when I heard the news. I knew that a lot of that was just hard to watch and deal with. God in a way may have protected the child from something horrible that is coming, or that would happen to him. The elders in there area were able to explain to them that they have a child waiting for them in the celestial kingdom and they are now helping them to reach that glory in heaven

Later in that week we were able to meet elder Dubé who is one of the quorum of the 70. He is super nice and super funny! We had a training with him and we were talking about a section in preach my gospel called how to begin teaching. It has a bunch of bullet points in there for introducing ways to comfort and prepare people for the message that they are about to receive. So when elder Dubé asked who uses that in the teaching I raised my hand and no one else did. I was super confused. He asked me how many points I used and I told him I use about 3-4 on average before I dive into the lesson. Then he called me up to teach him and his wife using whatever materials I had with me, so I brought up my iPad and gave them a lesson just by the spirit. I was so scared to go up and teach a general authority in front of a whole bunch if experienced missionaries, but I went up and trusted that I would be guided. Every time I said something the spirit put words into my mind and heart so I knew what to say next, it was perfect! Then when we were done my mission president started to tell him that I've been in the field for 4 weeks which was okay until elder Dubé blurted in the mic that I've been out for 4 weeks and he kept saying that it was unbelievable haha. It was funny but all I could think was, I'm never raising my hand again.

After that we went to Daquan's house who has a baptismal date for the 26th and invited him to church and he was super excited to come and he was even going to go to work early so he could get out In time for church. We were so excited! News kept getting better, we were able to contact another investigator named Chris and reset a baptismal date for the 10th of October and his girlfriend Chelsea had so many questions that we were able to put to rest and we had a 2 hour lesson that reached every single lesson at some point. So we have a lot more to teach her because she has all of the right questions. We have a possible baptismal date for her for the 16th of October I believe, if she reads and receives an answer it is true! I was super excited. Then that same Saturday evening, Daquan messaged us saying that God told him he already had his spirit with him and that he didn't need to be baptized and that he wouldn't be coming to church. That was a huge downer and I kept getting an impression that these dreams he is having are not from God or his spirit, but are from another source mixing truth with lies that he is caught up in.

We were able to at least get him over to a members house for dinner and we talked a bunch about feeling the spirit and how we know it truly is the spirit and we were able to commit him again to studying the scriptures (which he had not done when he got this answer) and taught him how to prepare sincerely to our Heavenly Father. He agreed to continue to pray and meet with us so we were super happy to be able get ahold of him and help him out.

Thanks for all of the uplifting messages I really appreciate it :) so for my birthday I'll I really want is maybe more ties because they're super fun to wear different ties and everyone loves to trade ties, and there is a book called the power of the everyday missionary. I am borrowing one from another elder right now, it is a book that president Craig had to go to the first presidency of the church to get it approved and for this mission we got it approved. I don't know if I can keep this extra copy but if I can't that would be a great gift :P and maybe some cinnamon rolls or some other treats. We really enjoyed the peanut butter balls and we want the recipe xD also German pancake recipe would be awesome too hahaha! I don't really know of anything else yet, but if I think of anything I'll let you know :P

So after we talked with elder Dubé we were able to meet up with a lot of the missionaries from the MTC that were my roommates and we took some pictures! We also shared some videos that we made and I'll send those in this email as well. I have been watching a lot of Mormon messages recently and one I want to share is called, Bearing our Burdens with hope. You definitely need to watch that one. I love the fact that it talks about how our burdens that we have don't just challenge us but they help us achieve greater heights and do better.

I know that each challenge we receive helps us grow, I remember praying to grow physically and spiritually and it was then that I realize that I was asking for another challenge to be thrown my way so that I could struggle and then overcome it as well. I know that our heavenly father won't throw us something too challenging but it will challenge us and make us stretch so that we can grow.

I love you all so much and I can't wait to hear more from you, hopefully we will be going bowling today so I can email more there, but I love you all and I can't wait to hear from each and every one of you again. I love you mom, dad, Ali, and Sam! Be safe and know that the lord is on our side!

1 Month!!!

We had a zone pday today and it was so much fun. We played kickball basketball volleyball and ping pong all day. We played tennis this morning and tomorrow morning we are gonna play with the ysa elders and were gonna play tennis for exercise.

It's awesome, I've tried 5 new foods this week. Rice, is pretty good. This interesting pasta that my companion made is odd but I'll eat it, I tried a new type of salad, two actually, and I tried chicken. It doesn't really taste like anything it's just warm and odd with a texture.

We had dinner at bishops house last night and we were with the ap's and sisters and with 8 of their kids and we played football in their backyard... On the way home we remembered it was Sunday. We had a little bit of repenting to do haha. But their food was so good... We ate so much and had to fast until 6!!! It was ridiculous. I picked up a pull up bar because my companions workouts are pretty lame :P they don't work me out and I feel like I'm gaining fat weight. I've gained 10+ pounds since I've gotten here. I'm like 140 now. I'm kind of glad but it's odd at the same time. We got this huge algorithm of how to gain or lose weight. I love all of the stuff in the package you sent me thank you all so much! I love the iPad cover, my kendama, the album, and all of the food!

I am having an awesome time with my companions. I have two now because one companion had a companion who went home because he was bi polar and depressed. His mom died before he came out and was being forced to go on a mission. But I'm super glad to have another companion who I get a long with so well! I miss mountains so much though! Send me pictures of mountains and your activities up there and I'll send you a lot of pictures of trees and forests. That is another thing I miss so much! I love mountains. I never thought I'd miss them so much I love them! I'll show you a picture of my zone leader and my companion as well.

I invited someone to baptism yesterday and they said yes if they find out the Book of Mormon is true. We talk so much about using the Book of Mormon to teach because that is how God talks to us specifically. We need to utilize the Book of Mormon so that the spirits power may be magnified both through us and through the Book of Mormon.

I love you all so much and hope you are having a blast in Brian head! Have an awesome day!

Love,
Elder Spencer David Salter
